One of the prettiest drives in the area had been closed down since before we moved here, and just re-opened a few weeks ago. Chapman’s Peak Drive connects Hout Bay to Noordhoek, and is an absolutely stunning road — sort of our answer to the Pacific Coast Highway.
The road had been closed due to a high number of rock slides, and you can see why. The new safety measures include gigantic rock-catchers made out of steel I-beams and chain link fencing. Though it’s still a little daunting driving into the open-sided “tunnel”!
Anyway, we drove out to Noordhoek on Saturday, stopping along the way to hit a farmer’s market (where we picked up some never-before-spotted-in-SA hot italian sausage!) and to have a delicious lunch, then meandered home along Chapman’s Peak. Lovely!
